How Reading Helps Writing College Papers of Any Complexity

Reading and writing are interconnected. They mimic and support each other and these two skills need to be practiced together for academic success. If you want to improve your writing, reading will help you do it. What’s more, science and research back up this claim. Here’s exactly why you should start reading more, and how it is connected with writing. Learn by Example Monkey see monkey do. Reading various stories and texts will expose you to many different writing styles, tone, and fluidity. Great writing is wonderful to try and emulate in your own way, but keep in mind that it takes the time to develop excellent writing skills. You won’t just read one or two fabulous texts and start producing masterpieces. Even poorly written papers, books, and entries will teach you something. They will set the example for what not to do, which is very useful. No matter what, reading will widely help you cultivate your own style of writing. Increase Your Vocabulary Just as reading exposes you to different ways of writing, it will also expose you to new words, plus ways to use words that you already know. Increasing your vocabulary will help with your writing because you will have a varied way to express yourself. It also makes your writing sound more educated and authoritative. Gain Prior Knowledge It’s well known that reading opens up a whole new world. There is so much to explore through text that is both fiction and nonfiction. By reading, when you go to write, you will have some background knowledge on certain subjects because you have read about them. You can use this for inspiration and to make your writing better. Get the Mechanics Down Reading shows you a lot about style, vocabulary, and different subjects. All of these things are useful when writing. What reading also shows you is how to use the tools necessary to write a complete paper. These include punctuation marks, phrases, and grammar; everything that is important and hard to master. You don’t need to specifically study what an author is doing to reap the benefits (although you can if you want to!) of starting or continuing to learn mechanics. Just by making yourself a little more aware of them will be enough. Making Sense of It All Although the connection between reading and writing may not be difficult to see, it’s hard to say which one helps the other. The main idea is that they both help each other: reading helps writing, and writing helps reading. It’s much like the old question of which came first the chicken or the egg? Here we have mainly focused on the effect of reading on writing, and the research and annotated observations have shown us that it is a great one. So what are you waiting for? Pick up the next book you see, and the one after that, and you will see your writing going up, and up, and up.

Legalize Marijuana - 1495 Words

I believe that the time has come to end the prohibition of marijuana in the United States of America. If marijuana were a legal substance and taxed like alcohol and tobacco, billions of dollars in revenue would be generated that could be put towards paying down our national debt. Further stimulation of our economy would result from the thousands of jobs that would be created in order to grow, manufacture, process, market and distribute the product. Overcrowding in our prisons would be reduced, creating much-needed room for violent and aggressive criminals. Finally, there is evidence that the legalization of marijuana will yield certain health and environmental benefits to American society. Currently, marijuana is being used to treat glaucoma, and it has been shown to significantly reduce nausea in cancer patients who are receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Additionally, people with HIV/AIDS and other terminal illnesses use marijuana to stimulate their appetites and to reduce various side effects of pain medications. Marijuana can also be used for the treatment of pain and muscle spasms in patients suffering from multiple sclerosis. Scientists report that cannibidiol; one of the chemicals found in marijuana, slows growth of breast cancer cells growing in laboratory dishes, and can even result in shrinkage of cancerous brain tumors in laboratory animals. Sex Trafficking Is A Major Problem Essay - 1755 Words

Sex Trafficking Sex trafficking is a major problem in the world today and the only way to truly combat it is by raising awareness through the media. I say the media because it is the most effective tool to reach out to world’s largest audience. Although one person has the ability to change the world, it is not enough to change the process of sex trafficking. If everyone right now was able to view real, in depth information on sex trafficking, the problem would not go unnoticed. However, the thought would be out of people’s mind within a week because of some other news article, or video. I propose that we use the mass media to its full potential and rame through every aspect of social media and make the people uncomfortable. By doing this, I believe that it would be a more effective way to to keep the thought of sex trafficking linger in one’s brain enough for them to want to help change the problem. The main reason thousands of women are forced or have to enter into sexual slavery and prostitution is because of poverty. Dogs of WarAll quiet on the western fron Essay Example For Students

Dogs of WarAll quiet on the western fron Essay In one part of our being, a thousand years. By the animal instinct that is awakened in is we are led and protected. It is not conscious; it is far quicker, much more sure, less fallible, than consciousness. One cannot explain it(56). On the battlefield of any war, past or present one would think any soldier had felt that sense of survival at one point or another. This could be named impulse acted on by fear, nervousness, or as the quote defined it, instinct in violence. The very descriptive violence in the book is one of the large clues that tell us Erich Maria Remarque, the author, is telling us some of the events he had to go through when he served in the war. Other wise it would have been another boring war novel of which classes could be spared the time. These points in the novel All Quiet on the Western Front, can be greatly explained and identified. When confronted with his survival, this instinct can drive a man to do anything for survival, even turn his senses and behavior in to a wilder state of human evolution. One of the strongest themes in the book is that war makes man inhuman when confronted by violence and, or in war. From the authors point of view soldiers were often compared to various non-living objects, that were inhuman. The soldiers are often compared to coins of different provinces that are melted down, and now they bear the same stamp.(236) Remarque thinks that the soldiers mind-state has been changed from when they were schoolboys, the stamp being the mark of the soldier, changing them forever. Also soldiers are compared with automatons or more commonly referred to as robots. In reminder of all soldiers of either side had to go through and witness without the traumatizing violence and gore one would not have much understood this point. To a country or at least in charge, the soldiers are no more than this: inanimate devices of war or pawns. Remarque uses this analogy to give the impression that the soldiers are enduring the same feeling over and over again, as if they were inhuman. In this classic war story Remarque also describes the soldiers as inhuman wild beasts in addition to the non-living objects. Paul states that when soldiers reach the zone where the front begins they are transformed into instant human animals(56) Remarque explains the zone is like a magical line; once crossed the soldiers are not the same person(s) as they were in a safe distance. Experiencing violence on the front trapped in a crater of a shell, though protected by it, Paul Baumer feels such desperation. My eyes burn with staring into the dark. A star shell goes up;-I duck down again. I wage a wild and senseless fight. I want to get out of the hollow an yet slide back into it again; I say you must, it is your comrades, it is not an idiotic command and again what dies it matter to me, I have only one life to loose.(211) This could mean even th en though acting as some beast for survival he too has scrummed to the belief he is just another pawn. As nothing more than wild beasts Remarque states that the German soldiers are only defending what they have, not attempting to take what they dont We have become wild beasts. We do not fight, we defend ourselves against annihilationwe feel a mad anger. No longer do we lie helpless, waiting on the scaffold, we can destroy and kill to save ourselves, to save ourselves and to be revenged.(113) This could be explaining that any emotion they are fighting out of at this point is from aggravation and for their own survival, and no other situation other than that of war and violence could bring this about. The sense of fighting for the glory of the FatherLand has long since gone. .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 , .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 .postImageUrl , .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 , .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937:hover , .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937:visited , .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937:active { border:0!important; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937:active , .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937 .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc2e780acb484c732ab071938a5f52937:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: nutrition EssayThese points have highlighted when confronted with their survival and the presence of survival even if it means changing his human nature.
